A downhill ski race for all ages, of all abilities and skiing expertise the Schuss Boomer Downhill is one of but a handfull of surviving town downhill races left in Canada, now about to celebrate it's 23rd running.

This is a one day event, combining the fun race and the need for speed. Our event remains both a fun event and a serious event for those who feel the "Need for Speed". Come on out and challenge your spouse, your friends or yourself and have a fun weekend of skiing and general merriment and foolishness at Ski and Ride Smithers on March 24, 2007.

There are several different components to this one day event:

  • The fun race consists of teams of three (3) dressed up in costume and individual racers. Each team picks an estimated time and the closest “combined guessed time” for the team wins.
  • The individuals with the need-for-speed compete to be the fastest on the mountain. (both run time and radar speed)
  • The corporate team that comes closest to their guess time wins the pot and donates it to the charity of their choice.
